Grading Policy:The following breakdown will be used for grading in all classes with the understanding that there might be changes in the future:Participation/Homework/Classwork = 10%= completion of daily classwork during scheduled class time= homework completed on time= present at beginning the of class time through to the end of class time= prepared for class with correct materials/ tools needed for learning= camera on whole time(no incons and/or profile pictures) - when applicable= contributing to class discussions, group work, multiple times during class timeInvestigations/ Projects/ Quizzes/ Assessments = 90%= includes projects done in class and at home given a point value, quizzes that provide an early establishment of knowledge, assessments to establish formal understanding, lab activities and investigations, graded classwork, etc.
In my science class, all assignments and responsibilities are given a point value. The points a student earns compared to the total they could have earned, equals their average. Students should strive to earn as many points as they can.
Tests: 150 - 200 point value range - depending on content
Quizzes: 50 - 150 point value range - depending on content
Labs/Investigations/Projects: 10 - 150 point value range
Homework/Being Prepared/Participation: 1 point a day equals 50 points a semester =10 % or less
Semester Range: 500 - 1000 points
Homework / Attendance Policy:
1st missed - zeros earned and verbal warning given
2nd missed - zeros earned and conversation/email between teacher and student held
3rd missed - zeros earned and email sent home/or phone call
- potential for 3 in citizenship (this is when a student needs parental involvement and help to get back on track)
Citizenship Policy:
Please look at the rubric posted on the HBW homepage ( or at this link - https://docs.google.com/document/d/1RmygcrdZD4NrtsVNi262j3NZ7QmPeBJ72iQ0Dp47TLE/edit )
Please be aware that the number of missed homework assignments can earn a student a 2, 3, or 4. Too many missed assignments means that a student is not prepared for class, not accepting responsibility, and/or not demonstrating a level of concern for learning which is required for a student to earn a 1 or 2 in citizenship.
If there are any questions or concerns about classroom policies, your child should be able to answer them, but please do not hesitate to email me at cpietrucha@veronaschools.org or call if need be.
Thank you and I look forward to a great year!!!
