Mrs. Yvette McNeal
This is Mrs. McNeal's 13th year as Principal of H.B.W. She has been an educator for over 25 years. Her life’s journey did not immediately lead her down the path to education. She studied Art History at Smith College and upon graduation worked with an independent art curator in New York City. She assisted with corporate art exhibitions and acquisitions. Although art continues to be a hobby for Mrs. McNeal, it is not her passion. When she realized her passion was for education, Ms. McNeal returned to school to complete a graduate teachers certification program in English at William Paterson University.
Mrs. McNeal taught both middle school and high school English for nine years earning a Masters Degree in Language and Culture from William Paterson. In 2001 she took a leave of absence from teaching, packed her bags, and moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts to work on a Masters Degree in Education Leadership at Harvard.
Mrs. McNeal returned to New Jersey and became the Assistant Principal of Thomas Jefferson Middle School in Teaneck, NJ. She was mentored by one of the wisest and most capable educators she’d ever met, her principal at T.J., Dr. Patricia Schwartz. After working with Dr. Schwartz for four years, Mrs. McNeal was ready to run her own school and couldn’t have been happier that the match was made with H.B.W. She continues to be very committed to the students, parents, and staff at H.B.W. and the mission of the Verona Public Schools.
