Steve Schels

    Supervisor of Humanities K-12


    As Supervisor of Humanities, Mr. Schels supervises the Language Arts, Social Studies and World Languages programs across the Verona School District (K-12). Mr. Schels began his teaching career in 1996 as a social studies teacher at Pequannock Township High School, where he taught World and United States History at all levels, in addition to U.S. Government and an elective titled "American History through Film & Music."  In 2006, after relocating to Sussex County, N.J., Mr. Schels served for the next 12 years as a Teacher of Social Studies, Supervisor of Social Studies & World Languages and an Assistant Principal at Sparta High School.  He joined the Verona School District in December 2018 and is excited to begin his new work in a wonderful community and school district.

    Mr. Schels completed his undergraduate education at Rutgers University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in History in 1993.  He continued his graduate studies in New Brunswick at the Rutgers Graduate School of Education, earning a Master's Degree in Social Studies Education in 1996 and a Master's Degree in Educational Administration from the University of Scranton in 2012.  Currently, he is at the dissertation phase of a doctoral degree in Teacher Leadership through Walden University.
