Miss Hyland

Hi everyone! My name is Miss Hyland and not only is this my first year teaching at Verona, but also my first year teahing since graudating from The College of New Jersey. While this school year will present us with new and unique challenges, I feel just as exctied and ready to start! In class we'll be using various tech platforms including Google Meet, Nearpod, Quizizz, and more. Some of my general teaching philosophy includes:

1. effective mathematics teaching is student-centric and investigative,

2. embracing mistakes and working together is essential to learning mathematics, and

3. being a successful educator involves supporting all aspects of a students' lives; not just their academic identity. 

Outside of teaching mathematics and supporting our students, I hope to one day participate as a couch at VHS or get involved in the music program. During my own time in high school and in college, I played basketball and field hockey and participated in choirs and even an a cappella group! I would love to be able to participate in these things as a teacher at Verona once I get some more classroom experience.
