About Dr. Tamburro
Dr. Christopher Tamburro began teaching at Verona High School in March, 2008. He has instructed the honors and college preparatory levels of: world history, U.S. History I, and U.S. History II. Dr. Tamburro additionally teaches AP United States Government and Politics, Economics, Law and Criminal Justice in America, Constitutional and Trial Law, Global Perspectives, and Contemporary Issues. He is an adjunct professor in the Department of Economics, Government, and History at Union County College.
In addition to teaching, Dr. Tamburro participates in the Verona High School community as an advisor/coach for Mock Trial, Euro Challenge, Stock Market Challenge Club, and National Honor Society. He additionally serves as voter registration coordinator at VHS.The student body has recognized Dr. Tamburro as the first recipient of the staff kindness award, inaugural staff homecoming king, invited speaker for national honor society inductions, and as the subject of the winning student essay on how a faculty member affected his/her life.Dr. Tamburro holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science with a minor in law and criminology from The College of New Jersey. He was inducted into Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honor society, and the Golden Key International Honour Society. He earned his Master of Arts in Teaching at the Florham Park Campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University. He holds an educational supervisor certificate from Montclair State University. He participated in the three-year James Madison Seminar on Constitutional Ideals and Principles at Princeton University. Dr. Tamburro participated in two Gilder Leherman Insitute of American History summer seminars with renowned historian Allen Guelzo and legal journalist Jack Ford.Dr. Tamburro has additionally completed courses in educational technology, and attended Advanced Placement Summer Institutes for United States History and United States Government and Politics. He has earned a Doctor of Letters with distinction in historical studies and fine art/media studies from Drew University. His dissertation, "Faith at the Crossroads," analyzes the role of ministers and church structures on the American Revolution in New Jersey.Dr. Tamburro is a certified Emergency Medical Technician, and is an active life member of the Verona Rescue Squad, where he serves as special operations coordinator and quartermaster, and has previously acted as first assistant chief, assistant captain, first lieutenant and crew lieutenant. He serves as a Deputy Municipal Emergency Management Coordinator for the Township of Verona and Deputy EMS Coordinator for the Essex County Office of Emergency Management. Dr. Tamburro is a Past Chief of both the Long Valley First Aid Squad and The College of New Jersey Emergency Medical Service.
Committed to providing content-based professional development, Dr. Tamburro is a councilor of the New Jersey Council for History Education. He also served the community as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Montclair History Center.
In 2021, Dr. Tamburro was elected to the Verona Township Council, where he serves on the shared services, community engagement, strategic planning, and police facility subcommittee. He is the council liaison to the Neighborhood Traffic and Safety Committee and sits on the Township Open Space Trust Fund Committee.
Dr. Tamburro can trace his maternal ancestors to pre-Revolutionary America. He is a Past-President of the New Jersey State Society of the Children of the American Revolution. His paternal ancestors arrived in the U.S. through Ellis Island, settling in Newark and Hoboken. This mixed heritage is the root of his passion for American and world history.
