    Membership in  Société Honoraire de Français / French Honor Society (SHF), sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF), is the highest honor for students of French in the country. 

    The aim of this organization is to stimulate interest in the study of French, to promote high standards of scholarship, to reward scholastic achievements, to create enthusiasm for and an understanding of Francophone cultures, and to promote international friendship.


    Eligibility requirements to be met by all students

    Candidates must be enrolled in French III level class or higher and have an A- (A minus) average or higher in French for the last 7 marking periods at the time of the induction ceremony. Candidates must have maintained a B- (B minus) average or higher in all other secondary school subjects prior to the semester of selection.  French may not be used to calculate this average. Candidates must continue to study French language for at least one year and are encouraged to continue with the study of French language for the remainder of their high school career. Candidates are required to have a behavioral record free from suspension. 


    Member status 

    French Honor Society members are strongly encouraged to actively participate in tutoring and/or “helping the teacher” sessions as well as all the activities organized by the French Club officers. All members of the French Honor Society must attend an induction ceremony each year (in case of extenuating circumstances, the advisor must be notified 3 days prior to the induction ceremony).
