    Our overarching goal for diversity, equality, and inclusion is to match our structure, procedures and actions with our purpose, vision, and core values, to create an environment of belonging for all students and for our entire school community.

    Upcoming Professional Development:

    For our next professional development, Ms. Jarah Botello (https://jarahbotello.com/) and her team will be working with our staff on March 7 and 8th to provide customized workshops for students, teachers, and administrators to address challenges that each group may face by leading discussions involving current events, history, or literature that touches on the themes of race, sexual orientation, and similar topics.

    During these workshops, Ms. Botello and her team will:

    • Establish a safe, equitable space for participants to share in open and honest ways;
    • Model activities where participants work together to build connections, actively listen to each other, and discuss challenging topics;
    • Present shared vocabulary which will include people-first language and proper verbiage for talking about difficult topics;
    • Provide use-tomorrow strategies to help educators:
      • Handle outbursts such as disparaging comments or slurs
      • Pause and assess a difficult conversation, and make appropriate decisions for handling the situation;
    • Facilitate exercises (case studies, role plays) where participants practice implementing strategies for handling challenging conversations and situations.
