    Name:  Mrs. Maria Graziano
    Grade/Subject:  Second Grade
    Email Address:   mgraziano@veronaschools.org
    Professional Bio:
Mrs. Graziano graduated from Montclair State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education. This is her eighteenth year teaching in Verona. Her first year was spent teaching third grade at Brookdale Avenue School. The rest of her years were spent teaching at F.N. Brown School.  Most of those years were devoted to second grade, but a few were spent in third grade.   Her love of learning began at an early age. She hopes to share that love with all her students.

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you all to the wonderful world of second grade!  We have many great things to look forward to this year and I can't wait to get to know each of you.  If you need to contact me for any reason I can be reached at school or at mgraziano@veronaschools.org.

                                              Mrs. Graziano's Web Page
On this website you will be informed of many things.  We will list special projects, upcoming events, and reminders.  Check your assignment pad daily as assignments may change.

                                            spelling list
Our weekly Fundations list contains 10 words from our second grade phonics curriculum.  We learn closed, vowel-consonant-e, and open syllables.  We also focus on vowel teams and r-controlled vowels. The list words will be practiced using various strategies to reinforce the skills taught each week   On Friday, the students will be tested on the skill of the week, not the list words.

All second graders should continue to practice the basic addition and subtraction facts in order to gain speed and accuracy.  This will also help in regrouping with larger numbers, which is an important part of the math curriculum.  We will also focus on word problems and find ways to break down problems and find key words.

                                                    ~LANGUAGE ARTS~
Language Arts encompasses the areas of reading, phonics, grammar, and writing.  Fundations will be used to cover the areas of phonmenic awareness, spelling strategies, and handwriting.  The Readers Workshop model will be used to help students find just right books and apply various skills to the books they read.  We will continue using the Writer's Workshop program in second grade.  Students will write in various genres including fiction, non-fiction and poetry.
