Summer Reading Guidelines

For Students Entering Grades 5 & 6:

Students are required to read ONE of any of the following:
  • novel
  • non-fiction
  • graphic novel

When they return to class in September, their assessment will be to design an advertisement or flyer that will be used to "sell" the book to other students during the school year. These will be displayed throughout the building and throughout the Media Center during the school year. To help students choose a book, Mrs. Kleinknecht has created a list of suggestions for summer reading.

For Students Entering Grade 7 & 8:

Students are required to read
  • ONE novel or graphic novel
  • ONE nonfiction book, such as a biography or other nonfiction choice

When they return to class in September, their assessment will be to create a brochure that will be used to persuade their classmates to read what they read. These will be used throughout the year to help students self-select books for free reading. To help students choose a book, Mrs. Kleinknecht has created a list of suggestions for summer reading.
